Leeherd Simmentals was founded in1982 with the purchase of a cow & calf from the famous Hibernian herd. Over the next two decades the herd was gradually built up with select purchases from the Hall & Lackabawn herds. Notable purchases included Hall Valerie, whose influence is still evident in the herd with numerous grand-daughters & great grand-daughters being retained to this day.

In 1999, we had the opportunity to purchase two in calf heifers from the renowned Lackabawn Herd, Lackabawn Hanna & Hena. Over the past 10 years, they have proven themselves as tremendous breeding cows, with their daughters providing the backbone of our herd & sons selling at top prices to both pedigree & commercial herds throughout Ireland.

The herd currently comprises 25 pedigree cows. Over the years we have used only the best bulls available through A.I & this is reflected in the breeding of our cows, which includes Brinkton Brilliant, Gretnahouse Supersonic, FBX, Rickardstown Jumbo, Hercules, Carnkern Titan, Hillcrest Champion & Crailing Barrister.

We only began competing at summer shows in 2004. Since then, we have attended selected local shows & Tullamore Show on a yearly basis.

Our aim is to produce top quality, Simmental cattle with emphasis on beefing qualities. The herd remains committed to consistently improve herd genetics through the use of top bloodlines.
